Additions and Corrections A Boud Error A long-standing error in The Pennsylvania Archives, Volume VIII, Second Series, page 23 has come to light. The marriage of Elizabeth Baldwin in Christ Church, Philadelphia, 5 September 1716 to Joseph Bond lists the groom as Joseph Boud. A transcript copy of the Christ Church records long in the possession of The Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania correctly lists the entry of Elizabeth's marriage to Joseph Bond. This is now further confirmed by a comparison of the original register with a microfilm copy [XCh/120] in the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. The archival error brings to light the interesting life story of the bride. She was born Elizabeth Meales, daughter of the emigrant, Samuel Meals, Sr. His will dated 4 June 1713; proved 5 March 1713-14, names his son Samuel Meales, jr. and daughter Elizabeth Baldwin. [Philadelphia Will Book C:371 & Papers 284 of 1713-14./ Elizabeth Meales was married three times. Her first marriage to Joseph Baldwin, tailor, son of Thomas Baldwin, the Chester blacksmith, took place 6 February 1712-13 at St. Paul's Protestant Episcopal Church in Chester, Pennsylvania. Joseph Baldwin was born 26 August 1685 and died early in 1715. They had an only son John Baldwin. Joseph Baldwin died intestate, letters of administration were granted to Elizabeth, his wife, 29 March 1715 [Chester County Book A:36] Thomas Baldwin, her father-in-law in his will dated 17 March 1731-32; proved 2 July 1731 [Will Book A:334/ "leaves to heir of son Joseph, deed .". As the widow Baldwin, Elizabeth married Joseph Bond, as noted above. Joseph had a house in Chichester, Chester County, along the Delaware River according to a draft by Isaac Taylor. He appears in the tax records of Chichester township, 1725-1732. Elizabeth then appears in the tax list, 17341740. Joseph Bond died intestate about 6 September 1734, and letters of administration were again awarded to the widow, Elizabeth on 21 September 1734 [Book-A-144]. They had six children: James, Ann, Elizabeth, Mary, Hannah and George Bond. George Bond died young. Elizabeth Bond married, thirdly, Benjamin Cranston at the First Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, 20 September 1735. They lived in Chichester where Benjamin Cranston was a shipwright. He died before 1751, leaving a son William Cranston. Aged and ill, Elizabeth drew up her own will on 1 August 1751, however she lived for several years after that date. Her will was probated September 1756 [Chester Will Book D.-53]. She spells her name 47 48 The Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine Elizabeth Cranson, and leaves to children: John Balder; James Bond; Ann Welch; Elizabeth Armour; Mary Clark; William Cranson and Hannah Bankson. Her executors were Jacob Bankson and Richard Clark. A deed dated 8 August 1759 from Jacob Bankson and Richard Clark, executors of Elizabeth Cranson, formerly Elizabeth Bond, late of Chichester, widow, deceased to William Cranson of said township, shipwright, recites John Riley of Chichester, woolcomber, by lease and release, 3-4 May 1738, conveyed to Elizabeth Cranson, by the name and addition of Elizabeth Bond, of the township, county and Province aforesaid, widow, a lot in Chichester, hereafter described . . and she by her last will dated 1 August 1751, appointed Jacob Bankson and Richard Clark, executors to sell . Consid. 85.C, etc. [Chester Deed Book L:316]. Aubrey H. Baldwin, Bible Record of Thomas Ewing This Bible record is an addition to the addendum to the article "Harris of Cumberland County, New Jersey" printed in PGM, XXXIV, p. 367. The family Bible of Thomas Ewing, printed in London in 1709, and apparently acquired by Thomas Ewing in 1741, has recently been found in Florida. Entries show his daughter Mary Ewing, born 27 February 1726-7. (The mother of David Harris, and wife successively of David Harris and Jonathan Diament.); Ebenezer Harris, born 15 September 1753; Lidia Harris, born 30 November 1760; David Harris, born 19 November 1765; Mary Diament, died August 1781; Jonathan Diament, died 5 November 1805; David Harris, died 20 November 1823; Ebenezer Harris, died 30 August 1831. These records confirm the earlier material. Record of David Harris family: "Rhoda Terry, born 21 December 1774 (unfortunately her father's name is not given) married, David Harris, 4 January 1797. Their children: Jonathan Diament Harris, born 5 April 1798; Lydia Harris, born 4 December 1799; Ebenezer Harris, born 26 April 1801; David Harris, born 30 May 1803; Ephraim Harris, born 22 July 1805; Rhody Harris, born %Mune 1807; John Ewing Harris, born 29 July 1809; Ephraim Harris, born 19 August 1811; James Terry Harris, born 19 October 1813."
