Mintzer Family Notes MHE appended Bible record is taken from two pages removed from an old Bible found in Haverford, Pa.° Most of the record appears to be in one very legible but unknown handwriting. John Mintzer, whose name heads the record, was the son of Adam Mintzer, a carter in the Northern Liberties of Philadelphia, and his wife Rosanna, and the grandson of Mark Mintzer, also a carter of the same place, and his wife Sarah. MARCUS MTJENZER (MINTZER) is reported to have married 12 October 1742, SARAH ELIZABETH BRAUN, a member of the Moravian Church, who was born in October 1717, in Wurttemberg, and came to Pennsylvania in October 1738. As MARK MINSER of Philadelphia, he was naturalized in the fall of 1740, so he must have been in the province since at least 1733. 2 The Philadelphia Moravian Church register for 1766 lists only one child for them: Sarah Muenzer, born 20 August 1748. But there were other children, for Mark in his will, dated 10 November 1781, and proved 21 January 1782, named as his children Barbara, Adam, Joseph, William, Englebert, Margaret, Sarah Lampater, a deceased son David and a deceased daughter Mary Seiler. His widow Sarah Mintzer, whose will was dated 8 January and proved the following 22 September 1796, named only her "undutiful son Joseph," to whom she left 25 cents, her daughters Barbery Wilkison and Margaretha Kurtz wife of George Kurtz, grandchildren Betsy and Peggy Kurtz, and Betsy and Anna Barbara Wilkison. 2 The marriage registers of St. Michael's and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Philadelphia show the marriages of some of the children 9 The record was contributed by Effie M. Shaw, 2217 Oakwood Lane, Richmond, Va. 23228, in May 1972. On 6 January 1761, JOHANNES THOMAS BISSHANS and ANNA MARGRETHA MUENTZER were married. On 11 November 1766, JOHN LAMPATER married SARAH MUENTZER. ADAM MUENTZER and ROSINA REIS were married on 16 July 1767. MARIA BISSANS, widow, married, as her second husband, GEORGE KURTZ, on 26 October 1773. No marriage has been found for ENGLEBERT MUENTZER, but he was married by 1781 when he and his wife MARY were sponsors, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia, at the baptism of Mary Dauber, daughter of Sebastian and Mary Dauber. The baptismal registers of that church show that Englebert, a Protestant, and his wife Mary, had three children baptised there: Joseph in 1782, Anna Mary in 1783, and William in 1785. As Ingleburd Mincer, he was listed as an innkeeper in the Northern Liberties in 1781. By 1790 he had moved up to Douglas Township in Montgomery County.' ADAM MINSER (MustrzER), son of Mark, survived his father only three years. In his will, dated 4 March 1784, and proved 11 March 1785, he named his wife ROSANNA, and mentioned children without naming them. His widow Rosanna, however, in her will dated 10 March and proved the following 31 August 1818, named her two sons John and Adam, and two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary.' She had died on 13 July 1818, aged 70 years, 8 months and 24 days, and was buried in the graveyard of St. Michael's and Zion Lutheran Church. Here also were buried four of her children: Catharine Minser, who died 5 October 1812, aged 41 years, 2 days. Mary Minser, wife of James McClaskey, had died 5 May 1820, aged 44 years, 3 months, 13 days. George Mincer died 13 September 1812, aged 33 years. Margaret Minser died 20 October 1789, aged 7 years, 9 months and 27 days. She endeared herself to a large connection of relatives and friends, to whom her death would be an inseparable loss, did not her Christian virtues leave this consoling reflection— That Her immortal soul has taken flight To joyful scenes of pure delight There with God to dwell above In endless pleasure, peace and love. The friends and relatives of the above are particularly invited to attend her funeral this afternoon at two o'clock from the residence of her mother, No. 315 North Third Street..
