FROM THE PHILADELPHIA SATURDAY COURIER, DEC., 1832. "In the Borough of West Chester on the 29th ult. [Nov. ] John Graves Esq. in the 84th year of his age. Esq. Graves was a native of England and emigrated to this country in early life. He was the oldest settler in the Borough, for many years an active magistrate, and has gone down to the grave at a good old age, rich in the esteem of his fellow citizens, and with the regrets of an aged partner and an only daughter. He was entitled to the character given by Pope to the "noblest work of God." On Saturday his remains were followed by numerous friends and neighbors to Friends burying ground at Marshallton. John Graves Esq. was a native of Nottinghamshire in England—was born on the 10th of January 1749—and came to Pennsylvania in the year 1774, at the age of 25 years. He was commissioned as a magistrate by Gov. Mifflin on the 20th of April 1795, and during his term had united in matrimonial bonds four hundred and sixteen couple." [The date of death given in the American Republican is Nov. 28, 1832, which is probably correct.]
