Additions and Corrections PLUMLEY. PGM, XXIII (1963), 42, footnote 48. The abstract of the will of Charles Plumley, cited from PMHB, XII, stating that he "named his heather-in-law Henry Paxson.", was a misreading. The original will of Charles Plumley of the city of Philadelphia. Joyner, dated 30 November 1708 and proved 17 December following, bequeaths to son Charles Plumley 500 acres in Salem County, N.J., and 20 pounds, the interest to be employed by my brother John Plumley to bring up my said son; to daughter Sarah Plumley land in Salem County, aforesaid, and 20 pounds as above. she being under age 21; to wife Rose Plumley the residue front sale of all personal estate in lieu of her dower; to my brother George Plumley my norwester; to my brother John Plumley my leather jacket and breeches, and appoints brother John Plumley and my father-in-law [italics added] Henry Paxson executors. The term "father-in-law" became step-father in later usage. In the register of marriage certificates, Middletown Monthly Meeting, Bucks County, Pa., is that of "Henry Paxton bid and Margerie Plumly, both of Neshanina, Bucks County! dated 13-6mo-1684. at the house of Robert Hall." The parties were Henry Paxson, widower, whose wife and sons Henry and John Paxson had died at sea aboard the ship Samuel, in 5th month (July) 1682, 2 and Margerie (Page) Plumly, widow of Charles Plumley, Sr. This also corrects the statement that "The 'brother-in-law' Henry Paxson, mentioned in the will of Charles Plumley, the younger, in 1708, was presumably the son of Plumley's mother's second husband." Actually, Henry Paxson was Charles Plumley's step-father. The will of Henry Paxson of Marsh Gibbon, Bucks County, yeoman, dated 232mo(April)-1723 and proved 30 July 1723, bequeaths to cousin James 250 acres; to cousin Thomas 250 acres and to Reuben Paxson 238 acres, sons of my nephew William Paxson, being the 500 acres I now live on and 238 acres purchased of George PownalP, to nephew Henry Paxson's daughter Elizabeth 20 Pounds at age 21 or marriage; to nephew [sic] Mary Walmsley's two daughters Mary and Elizabeth 20 Pounds each; to son-in-law John Plumley's son John and my nephew William Paxson's son Henry a tract of land near North Wales, about 12 miles from Edward Farmer's Mill; to nephew James Kirkham land at Conistoga; to Amey his sister a tract of land at Newtown; to Mary wife of Samuel Jacobs, Sarah wife of Thomas Knight, Junr., Abigail widow of my nephew William Paxson, and to Ester his daughter. The residue of estate to my son-in-law John Plumley and my nephews William and Henry Paxson; and appoints them executors. Signed by his mark. 4 In the register of Middletown Monthly Meeting, Bucks County, Pa., is this item: "Henry Paxson died 19-5mo-1723. Was not a member. Death recorded at request of son-in-law John Plumley." (Read step-son.) Lewts D. Com , F.G.S.P., F.A.S.G. NOTES ' From microfilm copy in GSP Collection.
