BLACK FAMILY RECORD PHILADELPHIA COntributed功ノAaron Goodu)in 珊蒜,器霊器電器芸荒島器書誌霊豊富 Nor does he appear by name in the 1790 federal census. Since the record StateS that Thomas lived with the Widow Marshall, Marshall households in Philadelphia and environs were searched as well. Only a few contain other free persons,, and none contain more than two, SuggeSting that the entire family probably did not live together, eVen Prior to the parents, deaths. A single sheet of paper found in the Pennsylvania Abolition Society PaPerSl reconstructs this family unit, Otherwise invisible in commonly し1Sed records of the period. The recording of the births was likely a response to the 1780 Act for the Gradual Abolition of Slavery. Mulattos and Negroes bom in Pennsylvania on or after l March 1780 would not be Slaves for life but would be free after a period of indentured servitude to last until the age of 28・2 Birth records like these helped clarify when that SerVitude would end.
