The Diaries of Isaac Levan

The Diaries of Isaac Levan Easton, Pennsylvania 1823-1828 & 1842 -1846 HANDWRITTEN COPY OF THE TWO DIARIES is on file in the Collections of the Genealogical Society. It is not the orig inal document, since it is written on the back of printed sheets that postdate the time of the diaries. According to a Levan Genealogy, the diaries were in the possesion of Mrs. William B. Levan, jr. of Arlington, New Jersey, in 1927. Isaac Levan lived on Fourth Street in Easton, Pennsylvania. He was connected with the first bank organized in Easton, and was the proprietor of a paper mill in Northampton County. He was a descendant of Daniel LeVan of Maxatawny Township, Berks County. He died in 1847, and was buried in Easton. 1823 Died March 27th Valentine Bidleman of Greenwich Twp., NJ. in the 23 year of his age. Died April 1st in Lehightownship Mrs. Lattice Horner, consort of Mr. James Horner, merchant . • .consumption. Married April 5th by the Rev. Mr. Thomas Pomp, Mr. John Tilton to Miss Sarah Seip, daughter of Michael Seip, Blacksmith of this place. [Easton] Married April 6th By the Rev. Mr. Hecht, Mr. Andrew Shewell to Miss Eliza Segraves, aged 14 years, all of this borough. Died April 8th, drowned this evening between sunset and dark, Mr. George Lerch, assisting on Jacob Hartzell's boat . Soldier April 15th jace Nagel arrived home, he was an enlisted soldier for five years. April 20th, Mother Kichline buried today. Married April 24th by the Rev. Died May 27th this morning in Allentownship Abraham Levan, Esquire, aged 74 years, 8 months and 22 days May 28th, Father was buried at Ten o'clock at the Stone Church. Married June 2nd by Mr. Charles Ward to Miss Catherine Shewell of Snufftown, Williamstownship. Died June 19th Mrs. Henrietta Arndt, widow of George W. Arndt, Deceased, after a very long illness. Died June 21st Jacob Weber, a boy only in his thirteenth year; hung himself today because he was accused of stealing money from his employer. December 16th Rev. George Diehl was installed this afternoon in the Methodist Church by the Rev. Mr. Anspack and Rev. Mr. Miller and Mr. Wolf. Charles A. Levan and myself were in church this evening. Then the christening, etc.: Baptized Mr. Mary Yohe, wife of Jacob, and joined church S. Yohe, Jesse B. Shipman, Francis H. Gwinner, Charles Dawes, E. W. Barnet, W. H. Thompson, Alex.
