Genealogy of our Family as far back as we can trace it at the present time, 1794: WILLIAM YOUNG, my Grand Father, was a Captain of a large Merchant ship trading from London to Philadelphia, and was lost at Sea. At the time of his decease, his family resided in Deptford near London. REBECCA YOUNG,' my Grand Mother was the daughter of Francis Richardson, an Eminent Merchant of the City of New York. After Mr. Richardson's decease, her mother intermarried with the Honble Edward Shippen, Chief Justice of Pennsylvania, Father of the respectable family of that name, from whom have descended the Willings's, Francis's &c. She died in this City and was buryd in Christ Church Yard, aged 68 years. Their Children: CRON [?] YOUNG, who was bred a Ship Designer & Builder at the Royal Ship Yards in England, was prevailed on to go to Cronstst in Russia, where we suppose he died. 256 The John & Mary Ann Young Bible Records 257 JOHN YOUNG, My Father, who was born in Deptford near London, and at about seven years of age came with his Mother to Philadelphia. WILLIAM BOYTE,2 My Grand Father on my Mother's side, was an architect; lived in Philadelphia when my Mother was born. Lucv BOYTE, My Grand Mother, was the daughter of a Mr. Sims of Philada. After my Grand Father's decease, she intermarried with Captain Thomas Bowling. All of whom are interred in Christ Church burying ground, Arch Street. Died May 9, 1759, aged 71 years. Their children: John Boyte, William Boyte, Ann Boyte, my Mother. JOHN YOUNG, my Father, was born at Deptford in England October 12, 1714. Departed this life June 26, 1790; was buried at St. Paul's Church in this City, aged 76 years.8 ANN YOUNG, my Mother, was born in Philada. October 13, 1717. John Young, Junr., was born May 19th 1740, [03.] May 30th EN.S.]. Mary Ann Bedford was born the 4th of October 1744, [0.S.] 15th [N.S.], John and Mary Young were United in the Bonds of Matrimony May 6, 1762. Their Children: [Young] 1. John was born August 15, 1763, 25 minutes after 5 o'clock in ye morning; was baptized by the Rev. Mr. McClanahan." And departed this Life October ye 4th, aged 7 weeks. Was buried in Christ Church Burying Ground. 2. Gunning was born January 7th 1765, 20 minutes after 6 o'clock in ye morning; was baptized by the Rev. Mr. McClanahan. Samuel was born June 3, 1769 at 15 minutes after 6 o'clock in ye morning; was baptized by the Rev. Mr. Stringer. 5. Ann was born June 29, 1771, 15 minutes after 6 o'clock in ye morning; was baptized by the Rev. Mr. Stringer. 6. Charles was born September 20, 1773, at 20 minutes after 12 o'clock in the morning; baptized by the Rev. Mr. Stringer. 7. Was buryed at the North side of his brother John. 11. Eliza was born March 17th 1786, at 50 minutes after 7 o'clock in the morning; was baptized by the Rev. Dr. Bend." Daughter Susan marryed James Buchanan" of Baltimore November 26, 1787. Son Charles marryed at Maidstone near London Elizabeth Taylor Parker, May 1796." Our Dear Beloved Affectionate Dutiful Daughter Susan Buchanan died in child bed of her ninth Child, July 12, 1805; was buryed in the New Church Yard, Baltimore. Our dear Son Francis left us the 24th day of December 1804 on a voyage to Hispaniola in the schooner Maryland, Captain Abbot. There bath been no account of the vessel since she left the Capes. Our dear son Charles B. Young departed this Life at our house, No. 43 South Charles Street, Baltimore, on the 16th of June 1809, aged near 36 years, and was buryed along side his sister in St. Paul's Church Yard. Our dear son George Washington Young inclined to go to sea, and was bound to Smith and Buchanan, Merchts. of Baltimore. Went several voyages, the last known was in the Pomona, Captain Bu- The John dr Mary Ann Young Bible Records 261 chanan, to Bordeaux in France. On the return voyage, the ship was lost, and all on board. Captain Betterton of Philadelphia reported he was not on board, that he had seen him since in Brest, but it hath not been confirmed, 1809. Mary Young intermarried with Seth Sanger on the 12th of June 1810. Our dear father John Young departed this Life after a lingering illness at Baltimore on the 10th day of January 1812, aged near 72 years, and was interred in St. Peter's Cemetery in Lot No. 44. Our dear Mother, full of years and Christian grace, being by the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, her God, made mete for the inheritance of the saints in light, was called from a state of great bodily affliction to enter into the joys of her Lord, June 4th 1817, aged 72 years 8 months. Mary Ann Bedford Young. Captain Seth Sanger departed this life February 11, 1812. Their daughter Mary born April 24th 1811; died 28 August 1829. On the 13th day of May 1834, the spirit of our dear sister Mary Sanger, being by divine grace made ready and willing to meet her Lord, was called to enter into that rest that remaineth for the people of God. Her mortal remains were interred beside her daughter in Lot No. 44 in the cemetery attached to St. Peter's Church, aged 55 years. Relict of Captain Seth Sanger. Our dearly beloved sister Ann Young was removed to another and better world about 7 o'clock A.M. on Friday, Jany. 15, 1841. She was fully prepared for the blessed change, having as a trophy of redeeming Love adorned the doctrine of God her Saviour in all things, aged 70 years. On the 22d of July 1847, after an illness of 11 days, Samuel Young, son of John and Mary Young, aged 78 years one month and 19 days, and his remains were deposited in a vault belonging to Mr. John Weaver in Greenmount cemetery, Baltimore, according to his own request. He was the last of seven sons . . . He has left one desolate sister to mourn her loneliness, the last of eleven children . . . In October 1849... I was enabled to purchase a small lot in Greenmount cemetery, to which were removed the remains of my brother, my parents, my two sisters Ann and Mary, Mr. Sanger husband to the latter, my niece Mary Lucy Sanger, and Ellen Eleanor and Julia 262 The Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine Ann, daughters of my late nephew John Young. The lot is No. 79 in Section C. The railing and monument which were in St. Peter's Church yard are likewise removed to Greenmount. Eliza Young. Fell asleep in Jesus, at her residence in Baltimore at a quarter past 2 P.M. on the 6th of January 1865, Eliza Young, daughter of the late John Young, in the 79th year of her age. °Rebecca Richardson, b. 2 Nov. 1685, daughter of Francis and Rebecca (Hayward) Richardson of New York City, who had mar. in London, 27 11 mo. (Jan.) 1680 by Friends ceremony. Her father d. testate, 15 of 8 mo. (Oct.) 1688 in New York; and her mother, his widow, mar. 2nd, 4 Sept. 1689, as his 2nd wife, Edward Shipper of Boston. They came to Philadelphia with their children, where he d. 2 Oct. 1712. Rebecca Richardson, first abovesaid, mar. 17 Jan. 1703/4, Thomas Murray, merchant, at the house of George Lowther in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine (PGM), XIX (1954), 248. Thomas Murray, son of Thomas & Avis Murray, was b. in London. Publications of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania (PGSP), X (1928), 173. They had issue: Richardson, Rebecca who mar. Richard Otto Bayer, Gent., and Mary Murray. The widow Rebecca (Richardson) Murray, as now revealed in this Bible Record, mar. 2nd William Young, sea captain in the London-Philadelphia trade, and resided in his home on the River Thames, Deptford, County Kent, England. The widow Rebecca Young returned to Philadelphia and d. there 25 Dec. 1752 aged 68 years; buried in Christ Church burying ground, southeast corner of Fifth and Arch Streets. Mary T. Seaman: Thomas Richardson of Durham County, England & His Descendents in America, (New York, 1929), 34, 36, 223. 2 William Boyte of Philadelphia, d. intestate, the admin, of his estate granted 18 Jan. 1730/31 to his widow Lucy Boyte. Burial had been on 12 Oct. 1730 in Christ Church burial ground. He and Lucy Stokes were mar. on 17 Jan. 1711, per register of that Church. The widow Lucy Boyte mar. 2nd on 11 May 1731, Thomas Bowling of Philadelphia, who d. testate; burial on 12 June 1748, Christ Church. The will of Lucy Bowling, widow, City of Philadelphia, dated 1 Aug. 1754, and proved 16 May 1759, names dam Ann wife of John Young; dam-in-law Hannah, widow of William Boyd (sic) deced. By deed of 14 Dec. 1748, Joseph Jaquet of New Castle Hundred and Co. conveyed lands to John Jaquet of same place, reciting that Peter Jaquet, late of Swanwick, by his will dated 3 Jan. 1726 bequeathed lands to his son Nicholas. An interesting account of Mill Prison has been found in the Journal of John Claypoole. His ship the Luzerne was captured by the British Privateer Enterprise in April 1781. He was confined to the forbidding Old Mill Prison, situated on a promontory jutting into the sea near Plymouth, England. In May 1782 he noted that there were 700 American prisoners. Claypoole was exchanged with 215 fellow captives and placed aboard the Symmetry, for return to America in June 1782.
