Join the Genealogical Society of PennsylvaniaItem Information
Announcements The Fellowship Committee of The Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, has elected as a new Fellow, Dr. Raymond Martin Bell of Washington and jefferson College. Through a long career, Professor Bell has worked diligently in the field of Pennsylvania genealogical research, particularly in central and western Pennsylvania research. His knowledge of both Pennsylvania German and Scoth-Irish families, their backgrounds and migrations is extensive. The thoroughness of his research has been made available to a wide range of readers and searchers through his publication of his findings in pamphlet and monograph form, readily accessible to libraries. He has had the good sense to do this all through his career, a procedure that can provide a model for genealogical publications. He has contributed numerous articles to The Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine; The National Genealogical Society Quarterly; The American Genealogist; The D.A.R. Magazine; The Genealogical Helper; The (Ohio) Report; New jersey Genesis; The Virginia Genealogist; Your Family Tree, and The Keyhole. His articles include detailed histories of individual families, as well as source materials such as tax lists, land grants, estate and deed records frontier petitions, militia rolls, intestate records and church records. Dr. Bell is also a Fellow of The National Genealogical Society. The Board of Directors of The Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania has accepted with regret the resignation of a long-time member, Edwin S. Dunkerley. He has recently served as chairman of the Volunteer Projects Committee. Mr. Dunkerley has been a member of the Society for fifty years, and is a dear and beloved friend to all who know him. He has made prodigious contributions to the Collection of the Society as well as generous financial contributions. His work in compiling cemetery records is famous; anyone with "a cemetery question" goes right to Ed for the answer. He has labored long hours over old American and English newspapers, producing reams of valuable abstractions which are a benefit to all of us. It is not possible to have a more dedicated member of this Society. We salute him. 282
