DANNER OF YORK COUN1Y FROM BISCHWEILER IN 1749 13 September 1749 on the Chrlstian 1 Mardin Danner (signature) wife Anna Catharine (Konig) daughter Catherina Danner daughter Anna Maria Danner The surname Danner (also seen as Tanner) is not that uncommon in either Pennsylvania or Bischweiler. There are fifteen oath-signers of that surname. In Pennsylvania there is an extended Danner family in Lancaster County, with another in Berks and another in Lehigh. There are unconnected Danner families in Bischweiler, including a second Martin, born about 1726, who married Susanna Bottmar in 1750 in Bischweiler, and died there in 1795 2 None of the other persons of the surname seem to be candidates for any of the Pennsylvania immigrants~ There are three connecting links that allow us to be certain about the origins of this couple: • Consistent baptismal records for their two children born in France and the two born in Pennsylvania. • The sponsors for the latter children were a couple from Bischweiler, Abraham Ribolet and his wife Maria Elisabeth. • Martin Danner was an executor of the will of Abraham Reibled of Lancaster Borough written in 1759. The father of the immigrant is one of the many residents of Bischweiler who came there from Canton Bern, Switzerland. 4 See introductory material in "Connections between Bischweiler, Alsace, and America in the 1700s," PGM 44:12-21, for more information on methods and sources. 1 Strassburger and Hinke, Pennsylvania German Pioneers, 1:400; 2:442-43; List 130C. 2 Evangelisch-Refonnierte Kirche Bischweiler, Heiraten 1747-1762, page 12, #40. 3 "Danner," Bischweiler Stammtafeln, 2:273.
