Helen Siggins Moore 1891-1968 T HE Society reports with regret that on 14 April 1968, Helen Siggins Moore died suddenly at her home in Havertown. She had been an Honorary Member of the Society and an active participant in the volunteer projects of the Society's Library and Accessions Committee. Born 12 August 1891, in Tidioute, Warren County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Leopold Paulus and Kate (Siggins) Moore, Helen removed to Philadelphia and became affiliated with the General Electric Company. She retired in the early 1950's as office manager of the company's branch in the Mitten Building in Philadelphia. In January, 1952, she joined the staff of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania where for many years previously she had devoted her spare hours to research. She resigned from that position on 31 December 1957. For many years Helen Moore was active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a member of the Robert Morris Chapter of Philadelphia. She served as Chapter Regent from 1935 to 1937. In 1958 she was elected Consulting State Registrar for a three-year term. From 1962 to 1965, she was a member of the State Research Committee and, in the latter year became State Vice-Chairman of Genealogical Records, a position she held until 1968. She was a former member of the Mayflower Society, deriving eligibility through John Howland and Thomas Rogers. In addition she was a member of the Regents' Club of Philadelphia, of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, of the Haverford Township Historical Society, and served on the Auxiliary of the Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill. She was a member of Temple Lutheran Church in Brookline. Miss Moore is survived by a sister, Marian V. Adams, and three brothers, L. Paulus Moore, Jr., Calvin C. Moore, and Theodore R. Moore. Those of us closely associated with Helen Siggins Moore mark her passing with a deep sense of loss, and with gratitude for the living evidence of her devotion to our Society. Those engaged in research are well aware of the value of a carefully compiled index; we number in our Collections many volumes indexed by Helen Moore on a volunteer basis. These stand as her memorial, each index a separate niche in her "tombstone," as she so often termed this dedicated work. ELIZABETH PARKER FITLER 40
