Genealogical Gleanings From Orphans Court Records of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Abstracted by SOPHIE SEMEN ROGERS °THIS installment of extracts from the Orphans Court records of Lancaster County extends from 27 March 1750 to 1 January 1754. The extracts follow in time those published in the last issue of this Magazine (Volume XXIV, No. 1), pages 15 to 38, which covered the period from 6 May 1742 to 10 March 1749/50. It should be noted that the area of Lancaster County had been reduced drastically by the erection of York County in August 1749, and of Cumberland County in the following January 1750. 1 Thus Lancaster County no longer included the land due west of the Susquehanna south to the disputed Maryland line. Until the erection of Berks County in 1752,2 during the period covered in this present installment, Lancaster's territory extended northwards between the Susquehanna and the Schuylkill an indefinite distance. After 1752 and until 1772, no further reduction in the county's size was made. In the present section of abstracts, as in the previous one, the spelling as transcribed by Mrs. Rogers has been retained, but superscript letters have been lowered, and some punctuation introduced for the sake of !For references to the bill for "erecting part of the Province of Pennsylvania, Westward of Satquehanna tk South Eastward of the South mountain into a roomy" to be called York County, in the Assembly, s« "Votes and Proceeding, of the Howe of Representatives of the Province of Pennsylvania," Penntylvania Arlth Series, IV, 3255, 3257-60, 3262, 3264, hereinafter cited as Votes.
