Great Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery Chester County, Pennsylvania T HE GREAT VALLEY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH in Tredyffrin Township is the ?Iciest Presbyterian Church in Chester County. A congregation was gathered as early as 1710, made up largely of the Welsh, joined by some Scotch-Irish and English settlers. The church was organized in 1714. Editor's Note: In the last issue we published a roster of burials in Great Valley Presbyterian Cemetery. It is with deep regret that I must say that the list should never have been published! Further research has proved that there were many mistakes made in copying the tombstone inscriptions, [8s copied as 3s, etc.] all providing an inaccurate record. Also, many tombstones were not copied. In an effort to rectify this unforgivable error we are printing what is believed to be a more accurate list. It is from a handwritten list made in 1897 by Jacob Martin. This is available in the library as Ch/4P or XR/804. All researchers who have made use of the information printed in the last issue are urged to revise those facts based on this new list. Your editor apologizes, and hopes that the printed errors will not be perpetuated. ACKER. Martha Jones Acker, born 2 November 1863; died 27 November 1888. Sacred to the Memory of General William Harris, who departed this life 4 September 1812, in 54th year. General Harris was a man of great worth and to those who knew him best his memory will long be dear. Uprightness, sincerity, candour and integrity were marked features of his character. Possessing naturally excellent understanding & a turn for public business he was eminently useful. The public generally & especially the Church of which he was a member has sustained a loss by his death which is sensibly felt. The lingering illness which dissolved his earthly tabernacle he bore with remarkable patience & trusting in the merits of his Redeemer. HARTMAN. Harry D.
