THE NINTH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE GENEA¬ LOGICAL SOCIETY OF PENNSYLVANIA. In presenting the Ninth Annual Report to your Society, the Board of Directors feel that while perhaps the work during the past year has not been so extensive in some re¬ spects as in other years, there has been undertaken some work which will be most valuable when completed, and which will be a great addition to the collections of the Society. The Board will be pleased to hear from any member in reference to historical-genealogical matters which they would believe it desirable to obtain, and will be glad to consider every such application, and as far as practicable these will be copied and placed on our shelves. In fact, at present our works are really more numerous than we have room for, but as stated in our last annual report, we hope in the future to have more room allotted to us by the His¬ torical Society, the Council of which have always been most kind and the Librarian and Assistant Librarian and all the employees most useful and active in assisting us in our wrork. Since March 5th, 1900, the following work has been ac¬ complished by the Society : 1. Darby Township Records, copied and indexed. 2. Vol. II., No. 1, Publication of the Society, containing some early Philadelphia Wills, early Burial Records from the Board of Health, and copies of some original Marriage Certificates, published June, 1900. 3. Births, Marriages, and Deaths, from Pou Ison’s Daily Advertiser, 1800-1810, indexed and bound. 4- Births, Marriages, and Deaths, from Poulson’s Daily Advertiser, 1810-1825, being indexed. (220) Ninth Annual Report. 221 5. Philadelphia Wills, being abstracted from 1802, to be continued to 1825. 6. Record of Burials in Friends’ Graveyard at Merion. 7. Radnor Monthly Meeting Papers, containing Certifi¬ cates of Marriage, Removal, etc. The last two named will be bound in one volume under the title “ Records Relating to Radnor and Merion Meeting.” We also have to report that we hope at an early period to have the Chester County Records, which will be a great addition to our library, and for which we have numerous inquiries. The Board of Directors beg to acknowledge with thanks the receipt of the following gifts : 1. Descendants of Jonathan Rich, prepared by George Rich. 2. The Sehner Ancestry, 1500-1896, by Samuel Miller Sener. 3. Five Generations of the Goodwins, of Kittery, Maine, compiled by John Samuel Goodwin. 4. The Seymour Family, by Tyler Seymour Norris. 5. Biographical Catalogue of the Matriculates of Haverford College. 6. “ The Sifted Grain and the Grain Sifters,” an address delivered at the Dedication of the Building of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, 1900, by Charles Francis Adams, LL. D. 7. Type written copy of Marriage Book A, Mt. Holly, presented by Wm. R. Stackhouse. 8. William and Mary College Quarterly Historical Maga¬ zine, containing the Genealogy of the Goodwin Families in America. 9. Essex County Historical and Genealogical Register. 10. Genealogical Queries and Memoranda, presented to the Society with the compliments of the editor, Geo. F. Tudor Sherwood- 222 Ninth Annual Report. 12. The Indiana Supreme Court, with some account of the Courts preceding it, published by the Northern Indiana Historical Society. 13. New England Bibliopolist, January, 1901. 14. Bulletin of the New York Public Library, April, September, November, 1900, January, 1901. 15. The Essex Antiquarian. The Board have to report with regret the death of the following members: Franklin Platt, Malcolm Macdonald, Dr. Louis W. Read, Daniel Sutter, Howard Williams Lloyd, Dr. Wm. H. Egle. Mr. Lloyd was one of the founders of the Society, and was for a long time its corresponding sec¬ retary. A memoir of him has been prepared by Mr. Thomas Allen Glenn, and is appended to this annual re¬ port, and will be printed in full in the next publication of the Society. Mr. Platt wras a member of the Board of Directors at the time of his death, and for many years previous. A memoir of Mr. Platt has been prepared by Dr. Persifer Frazer, and is attached to this annual report, and will be printed in full in the next publication of the Society. The lovers of historical and genealogical matter have lost a valuable man in the death of Dr. Egle, for many years State Librarian. There have been nine resignations during the year, and one election. The total number of members at present is 296. All of which is respectfully submitted. EDWARD SHIPPEN, M. D., U. S. N., President. EDWARD S. SAYRES, Recording Secretary. March 4-th, 1901-
