Anderson Family Bible Record, Chester and Montgomery Counties

ANDI-RSON FAMILY BIBLE RECORD CHESTER AND MONTGOMERY COUNTIES* These three entries are written on one preprinted page, in the same hand¬ writing and ink, apparently at the same time. Although there are only three entries, we are able to identify the family. A history of Chester County states “Dr. James Anderson was born in Charlestown, now Schuylkill Township, April 1 1, 1782. He was the eldest son of Hon. Isaac Anderson.” His parents were Isaac and Mary (Lane) Anderson, early members of the Methodist society near Valley Forge, where Isaac preached; Bishop Francis Asbury visited their home in 1812. 1 Colonial and Revolutionary Families of Pennsylvania states: “Dr. James Anderson, son of Honorable Isaac Anderson and his wife, Mary Lane, . . . was born in the Chester Valley, and was for many years a practicing physician in Lower Merion, Montgomery county. He married Sarah, daughter of William and Naomi (Walker) Thomas, of Merion town¬ ship, Philadelphia county, . . . Dr. James and Sarah ( Thomas) Anderson resided near the present site of Ardmore, in Lower Merion township, Montgomery county, where their nine children were born.
