A Resolution by the Board of Directors of the Society Whereas, the native talents of Francis James Dallett were effectively honed through studies at Haverford College and the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts, respectively; and Whereas, at the age of sixteen he embarked upon his avocation of genealogy, which he has meritoriously pursued throughout his life, earning for him the reputation, to quote one of his peers, as "one of the most prolific and distinguished authors and publishers of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania"; and Whereas, Francis James Dallett has additionally served the Society well as Director, 1956-1963 and 1982-1984 and being in 1956 first named a member of the Publications Committee; 1957 witnessing his first of many articles in The Pennsylvania Genealogical Magazine, highlighted by "Iconography and Genealogy" in 1970, and other choice writings, and in 1961 being elected a Fellow of the Society, which honor he richly merits today, and in 1984 being elected Vice-President of the Society and chairman of its Publications Committee; and Whereas, the cultural contributions of Francis James Dallett have been significantly recognized in the form of his election as a Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists in 1966; his title as Founding Trustee and Honorary Port Warden for Life on the rolls of the Philadelphia Maritime Museum; his election to the Board of Directors of both the Chester County Historical Society and the French Benevolent Society of Philadelphia; his service as Councillor and Historian of the Society of Colonial Wars in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; as co-founder and President of the Radnor Historical Society; as Director and Librarian of the Athenaeum of Philadelphia; as Assistant Director of the American Museum in Great Britain; and University Archivist at Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania; and Whereas, Francis James Dallett now desires to tender his resignation from the posts he holds in this Society, evidencing meanwhile his continued interest in its activities; Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Society at this Board Meeting here assembled, express its abiding appreciation to Francis James Dallett for the exemplary works he has wrought on its behalf by furnishing him a copy of this excerpt from today's minutes and be it further resolved that this Society hereby confer upon Francis James Dallett the title of Vice-President Emeritus for life.
