GUTKNECHT OF GERMANTOWN FROM BISCHWEILER IN 1749 WITH NOTES ON GRUNHOLTZ 13 September 1749 on the Christian 1 Christian Gutknecht (mark) wife Maria Magdelena (Gtiinholtz) daughter Maria Magdelena Gutknecht daughter Maria Elisabetha Gutknecht The identification of Christian Gutknecht of Germantown as Christian Gutknecht of Bischweiler is solid. On 27 December 1795, Christian Gutknecht, who had died the previous day, was buried at Germantown Reformed, aged 73 years, 6 months, 2 days old. This calculates to a birth date of 25 June 1722, which corresponds quite nicely to the baptism of Christian Gutknecht on 28 June 1722 at the Reformed church in Bischweiler, the son of Hans and Anna Barbara (Kiefer) Gutknecht. Christian Gutknecht and his wife Maria Magdelena had children baptized at the Reformed church in Bischweiler in 1747 and 1748. Christian Gutknecht and his wife Maria Magdelena had children baptized at Germantown Reformed in 1764 and 1769. The records for the baptisms of the first three children born after arrival apparently do not survive. The surname Gruenholtz, with no given name, appears on the list reproduced by Schell in NGSQ. No male of this name was found in Strassburger and Hinke nor in any of the American records examined, so apparently it refers to Maria Magdelena, even though the list does not include the Gutknecht name.
