THE EIGHTH ANNUAL REPORT OP THE ASSOCIATE COMMITTEE OP WOMEN. . Mr President , Members of the Society and Guests : Since the last meeting of the Society the Committee has lost its gracious chairman, Miss Nina Lea, whom to know was to love “ Whatsoever things are lovely ; whatsoever things are of good report ” these were hers, and her rare qualities will remain a fragrant memory in the hearts . — . of her associates Through the instrumentality of Miss Lea, and with the cooperation of Mrs. Rogers, abstracts of the Bedford County, Pennsylvania wills to 1825 have been made One instalment thereof has been printed in the Soci ety 's Publications and others will duly follow The Committee also counts in its year s work the substantial contribu tion made by Colonel Selden of Oil City, of copies of the Blunston Land Licenses, and by Miss Selden of Philadelphia of abstracts of the first volume of Somerset County, Pennsylvania, Wills The sub-committee on Records: Mrs Gummere, Mrs Benson, Mrs, Sayres and the Recording Secretary, report an increasing and valuable collection of original papers, a list of which has been prepared This list, space permitting, will appear in the Society ’s Publications The Records themselves will be mounted, bound and placed upon the shelves for use by the membership, under supervision The most important con tributors to this group are Mr, J, Clemson Pusey, Mrs William Goodell Clark and Meredith Hanna, Esq. Additional contributors will be wel . - . - ’ . . . P . . . . - . S comed One member of the Committee, Mrs Rogers, has made, and is continuing to make, a unique collectanea of Bible Records, largely Pennsyl vania, and numbering over two hundred separate records Contributions in this field will be most acceptable to Mrs Rogers or the Committee Mrs. Sayres, another member, has accumulated a miscellanea of letters, invitations and other annonneements, illustrative of the Social life of Philadelphia for the past fifty years She and the Committee will be happy to have additions to this assemblage What has this to do with Genealogy ? Everything. For without genealogy there would be no social life, and without social life there would be no genealogy, in Phila delphia Mrs Parker, on music bent, has made, is making and will make a grouping of Pennsylvania Music Scores, old songs and songs without words What has this to do with genealogy ? Everything For without genealogy there would be no songs of love, longing and loyalty, no music, no Philadelphia Orchestral So it can readily be seen how important is genealogy in the daily affairs of human life, and how important the Society can become! The Committee keeps well in mind the need and wisdom of new mem bers both for this Society and the Historical Society, and has some not able additions to its count for the past year . . No purely social activity has marked the Committee ’s year. The project fostered by Miss Lea has, however, been continued, and a general meet ing arranged and held in the Historical Society, in cooperation with English Friends and several patriotic societies, to protect the graves of Wil liam Penn and his family at Jordans, against the encroachments of modern London outflow. By the Committee ’s efforts, and the assistance of many here present, twenty- one hundred dollars has been raised and the Society is the holder of an acre of beechwood in the vicinity of Jordan s ’ Meeting House in the English mother land. The Committee ’s hit of work in this particular may be said to be finished, but other organizations now have the matter in hand, and one day a William Penn Memorial Union, on both sides of the Atlantic, will accomplish the proposed * * international inheritance and Memorial, ” which The Genealogical Society of Pennsyl vania, in conjunction with its Associate Committee of Women, had the honor and the opportunity to further. At the Committee 's Annual Meeting in February, Mrs. Hampton L. Carson was unanimously elected Chairman for the ensuing year, and Mrs. Edward S. Sayres Vice-Chairman. The other officers were re-elected. With renewed hope, each and every member looks forward to a year of accomplishment for the good and growth of the Society. Respectfully submitted, - - P - G S M.
