At the last annual meeting of the Society, March 2, 1908, the members had the pleasure of listening to a most interesting address by Miss Jane Campbell on "The Historic Churches of Philadelphia," illustrated by stereopticon views. The Board reconvened after the annual meeting and re-elected Rear Admiral Edward Shippen, M. D., U. S. N. (retired), President. Col. J. Granville Leach and Richard McCall Cadwalader, Vice-Presidents. Seventeenth Annual Report. 117 Edward S. Sayres, Recording Secretary. C. Howard Colket, Corresponding Secretary and Treasurer. Our collections are now all nicely housed in the new steel fire-proof cases installed by The Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and we can feel certain that they are as secure as human foresight can provide. These collections are much sought after for original sources of information, not only by our own members but by others, and the wear on them has in some cases been so great as to necessitate rebinding. The Board have to report with regret that since the last annual meeting they have lost by death four valuable members, viz.: Messrs. Joseph G. Darlington, Samuel R. Shipley, William H. Jenks and Charles Hartshorne. Mr. Jenks was at one time a member of your Board and a memoir of him is herewith appended. Resignations during the year have been 8: dropped from membership, 1: elected, 6: making a membership at present of 254, of whom 29 are life members. The Treasurer's report, which will be presented this evening, will show the Society in good financial standing. The Publication Committee have now in charge another issue, which will appear shortly. Our thanks are as usual due to the Council, Librarian, Curator and Staff of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania for many courtesies and kindnesses shown us during the year. Miss Bunting has also given close and careful attention to her work as transcriber and clerk for the Society. All of which is respectfully submitted on behalf of the Board of Directors, by EDWARD SHIPPEN, M. D., President. EDWARD S. SAYRES, Recording Secretary. THE GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY OF PENNSYLVANIA.
