Description
The practice of payment for wolf heads, known as a bounty system, was a common historical method used in North America to encourage the eradication of wolves to protect livestock, with payments often requiring the submission of the entire head as proof. Transcribed here is a list of Wolf heads submitted in New Castle, DE in November of 1677. Also transcribed is a list of the inhabitants living on November 9, 1677, within the jurisdiction of the Court at New Castle who were subject to taxation, together with the rates and purposes for which this tax was levied.
